Production of the Corvette increased tenfold from 1953 to 1954, with Chevrolet producing well over 3,000 of them following a move in production to a renovated factory in St. Louis, Missouri. The second year of production also heralded the introduction of three new exterior colors to the Corvette's color palate, Pennant Blue, Sportsman Red, and Black, as well as the addition of an optional beige interior, as opposed to the red.

The car offered here is believed to be one of 100 originally built in 1954 in this striking color, Sportsman Red, as part of the first year that red was available on the Corvette, with the complementary red interior, and also features a factory radio. It was cosmetically restored for its present owner in 2009 by marque specialists Janousek Classic Restorations of Bellevue, Michigan, including new paint (over an excellent original body) and carpeting, a repainted dashboard, and a rebuild of the engine and radiator, with a more recent carburetor rebuild; it has since been very well maintained, continuing to show beautifully.
