Chevrolet instructed the buyer of the 1999 Camaro SS to technically think of this model as an “extreme Z28” due to its performance and appearance options that appealed to the “hopelessly performance addicted.”
The Camaro SS of 1999 had enthusiasts searching for superlatives; here are the items that made the “SS boss of all it surveys.” The 5.7-liter LS1 V-8 engine produces generous horsepower (over 300-hp) with forced air induction and new-for-1999 low-restriction exhaust. Other attributes include a Torsen performance axle, 17-inch lightweight aluminum wheels, SS identification badging, hood scoop and a raised rear spoiler.
Among the generous appointments on this 17,000 actual mile and very clean example are glass T-tops, tan leather upholstery, manual transmission, center console between power bucket seats, tilt steering wheel, radio with CD player, air conditioning, appropriate SS badging; power windows, door locks, steering and four-wheel disc brakes. All-around, this appears to be a very clean and nicely maintained (and uncommon) 1999 Camaro SS Sport Coupe.
According to trusted sources, in 1999 42,098 Camaros were built by Chevrolet. These same records indicate that 4,829 cars were SS specification; from this figure, it is reported that 2,647 were coupes that received the manual transmission, such as seen here. This one has been nicely preserved and is ready to continue its charmed existence.
