Pontiac let readers know in 1967 literature that GTO could also be an acronym for “The Great One” instead of its true meaning in Italian, Gran Turismo Omologato, which translates to “officially certified for racing in the grand tourer class”. They forwarded that the interest in such a car would make you aware of an “almost uncontrollable urge to plant yourself behind the wheel of one of these automotive masterpieces.” Whatever your interpretation may be; most Pontiac aficionados of this era have concluded it was the brand’s ultimate driving machine.

This is a fine example to satisfy these driving urges. This particular car is powered by a 400-cid, 335-hp V-8 engine and is reported to be running with its original drivetrain with the engine coded “WT.” This is matched to a floor-shift manual four-speed transmission that, in turn, is connected to a Posi-traction rear end. The GTO is said to have been driven sparingly, and it has been restored to a high level of detail and wears its original color Code L Mariner Turquoise with a black bucket seat interior. The cabin is adorned with factory gauges that include an in-dash tachometer, AM radio, and control is eased with power steering. Rally I wheels and redline tires complete a look that seems to have just been driven off the showroom floor. Pontiac Historic Services documentation is included; if you look underneath this fine machine, it will be found to be superb in every detail.
