After the excess of fins which had distinguished Cadillacs only a few years before, the Sixty Special reflected not only Bill Mitchell’s more subtle design themes, but also a return to the original thoughtful and refined design concepts which had characterized his original 1938 ground-breaking design.

It is unlikely that, in period, any material possession spoke so eloquently of a man’s good taste and achievement as did the distinctive Fleetwood Sixty Special Sedan. Admired everywhere as a motor car of custom design and coachwork, it in turn says many things about the owner in recognizing enduring value.

Unmistakably Cadillac, the four-door hardtop Fleetwood Sixty Special carried a more formal c-pillar treatment with small louvers and a smaller rear window balanced by triangular quarter windows on the rear doors.

Its elegance made it a high profile design that established a halo for Cadillac sedans, but its $6,366 base price was within $300 of the prestigious Eldorado Biarritz convertible and almost $700 more that the Sedan DeVille, limiting production to only 13,350 of the 160,840 total cars built by Cadillac in the 1960 model year.

Few, if any others, survive in such desirably preserved and maintained condition as this 1962 Cadillac Sixty Special. It is reported with just one high quality repaint in refined Ebony (black) and gorgeous original beige broadcloth upholstery.

It is equipped with a full array of Cadillac’s 6200 series comfort and convenience accessories and includes factory air conditioning. It presents itself superbly with exquisite paint, bright chrome and the quality bodywork expected of one of Cadillac’s signature prestige models.

The original upholstery is marked by the Cadillac crest and the engine has been out allowing it and the engine compartment to be meticulously cleaned and detailed in correct original configuration.

The trunk is similarly presented in nearly unblemished original condition complete with the spare wheel and tire, jack and even the original jacking instructions.

A thoughtful touch is the driver’s door window sill wood, which shows just the right amount of wear from the driver’s arm consistent with the exemplary condition of the rest of the car. It is a real find, a Cadillac that anyone will be proud to own, show and drive.
