Continuing on with the long hood/short deck design concept; there was a “steed for every need.” Among the things the new-for-1969 Mustang offered was “a more practical shape that still looked jazzier than the previous Mustangs” according to an automotive writer of the period. Dimensionally, the 1969 marked a sharp departure from tradition. Overall length grew by four inches, most of it in front overhang, and the new models were slightly lower and wider. The fuel tank also grew to 20 gallons versus the prior 17 gallon measurement.

Happily conveyed by the consumers, the interiors were more spacious. Thinner doors improved front shoulder room by two-and-a-half inches, and a modified frame crossmember beneath the front seat allowed a significant two-and-a-half inches of additional leg room. Outside, Mustang’s familiar face gained an additional pair of headlights within the grille, the old side sculpturing was erased, rear fenders bulged more noticeably and the taillights were no longer recessed.

Besides there were all of those things that only the Mustang could offer, like a feel for the road that meant more fun in getting to your destination; like bucket seats that are individually adjustable with comfort and a sporty feel, plus a console with a shifter for all transmissions and a choice of eight engines. Mixing the fine blend of fun, open air motoring and pavement peeling power; this fully restored convertible is powered by the well-respected and powerful M-Code 351-cid, 290-hp overhead valve, four-barrel V-8 that is connected to a desirable four-speed manual transmission and a 3.75:1 Traction-Lok rear end .

Looking neat, possibly even impeccable; this Acapulco Blue with white rocker stripe example has a white soft-top, top boot and a white Deluxe interior, plus it is reported as a “number one” car. The dash and carpet are black; plus it features a Rim-Blow steering wheel, Ford AM/FM radio, hood pins and hood scoop, sport mirrors, styled steel GT wheels, BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires, power steering and power disc brakes. With records indicating that the conservative number of 14,746 Mustang convertibles were built in the 1969 model year from a total of nearly 300,000 in the series; this proves to be a quite uncommon opportunity for this era of the always popular Mustang platform.
