Many Isetta models are marked by the small amount of track width between the closely-placed rear wheels; this beautifully presented example is one of the three-wheeler versions that were primarily marketed by BMW overseas – particularly in Great Britain – as in the UK the three-wheel versions qualified as motorcycles and were therefore not subjected to automobile licensing and road tax requirements. Four different basic models were available; this one is the sliding-window version that sold for $1,165 versus the approximate $1,000 for the fixed bubble window type. Convertible versions were also available at this time. Regardless of the model; these are instantly recognized even today, and certainly the embodiment of the popular microcar.

The example featured here is a lovely example that is immaculate in condition and has all of the features associated with this iconic microcar. It was in residency of the Thrall family auto collection for the past 25-years and in that time was well-cared-for. The car’s restoration was carried out with a great attention to detail, even in the smallest of matters. It is presented in turquoise blue and white; clearly exhibiting its late-1950s to early 1960s German heritage. The chrome is reported as “magnificent” and the interior is nicely finished in a pleasing gray vinyl and cloth combination. The entire package is considered “excellent” and mechanically; this Isetta is further reported to run as good as it looks and can be driven anywhere with pure enjoyment and confidence. As a British variant, this Isetta has right-hand drive to go along with its three-wheel configuration.

Driving this economy standard features sheer delight as it turns heads, no matter your destination.
