This 1941 Willys Coupe has been built by the original Clayton Custom Cars. It started with a General Motors 502-cid, 502 hp crate engine and was further built with balanced assembly, full roller-cam, polished 8.71 BDS blower, an MSD ignition, and three-inch stainless steel custom exhaust. The result is an estimated 875 horsepower being pushed through a Turbo 400 transmission to a Tech 9 sheet metal rear end housing with 3.50:1 positraction gears.
The paint is Plum Pearl PPG base coat with clear coat, accented by subtle chameleon flames, plus a set of 17-inch Budnik Cobalt rims (17x7-inch fronts with 215/40/17 radial tires, and 17x13-inch rears with 345/55/17 radials). Inside you'll find a fiberglass dash fitted with Dolphin gauges. A polished Ididit steering column tilts up to a Budnik GT steering wheel, and is highlighted by various other plated or polished accent items. The upholstery consists of beige leather throughout; other luxuries include an AM/FM CD stereo system and a back-up camera. The foundation for the car is a custom tubular chassis, which incorporated Heidt's stainless-steel tubular A-arms, a four-bar rear suspension, and Air Ride system, front and rear.
The Willys has won many awards including being a two-time NHRA Best of the Best winner, Streetrodder Magazine Top 10 pick, ISCA Award of Excellence, ESPN2 two-time Meguiar’s Attention to Detail award, as well as Good Guys, NSRA and Super Chevy awards. The Willys has won in various catagories such as engineering, paint and engine awards.
