Often forgotten in the history of American muscle cars is the El Camino. Introduced in 1959 and originally Impala based, the half truck – half car was in response to the success of the rival Ford Ranchero. Surviving just two model years in this guise, the El Camino re-appeared in 1964, this time using the Chevelle platform, including the high performance engines and powertrains. In 1968 the wheelbase was lengthened to 116 inches, the same as the Chevelle sedan and station wagon. The SS 396 debuted as a new model of El Camino and came only with one of the available 396 V-8 engine. The new El Camino featured a longer hood, angular side windows, a recessed rear window and a rakish front end. This style concept gave the owner the amenities of a passenger car, but with convenience of a truck. The SS version would debut in 1968. This firmly established the El Camino as a muscle car/truck.

This fully restored El Camino is finished in black over black with a red stripe and a black vinyl top. It is an SS 396 model with column shift and is complete with Rallye wheels, redline radial tires, a 12-bolt rear end, rear sway bar, dual exhaust and box trailing arms. It is fitted with a factory AM/FM radio, factory air conditioning, bench seat and the deluxe steering wheel.
