The design of this very unique retractable-hardtop convertible pickup truck was influenced by the Chevrolet Super Sport Roadster concept car which premiered at the 2000 Detroit Auto Show. It was manufactured between 2003 and 2006 and garnered the prestigious role of pace car for the world famous Indianapolis 500 Indy Car race in 2003.

Based on the long-wheelbase Chevrolet Trail Blazer/ Envoy platform, the frame was shortened by 13 inches, yet retained the stock width, giving it a solid, aggressive stance and featured retro-styling influenced by the handsome curves of the popular Chevrolet pickup trucks of the late 1940s and early 1950s. The steel retractable-hardtop was designed by the American Sunroof Company (ASC) and makes a vivid styling statement, up or down. The shallow bed has a hard-cover and is purposeful in function. Powered by the General Motors Vortec 5300 engine, a 324-cid, 300-hp V-8 engine.

This 2,504-mile SSR is finished in red with a black leather interior that benefits from steering wheel-mounted controls, an automatic transmission, CD player and auxiliary gauge pack.
