The idea of a popular, evocative concept car reaching production undiluted from its original form is an idea that largely went out with Harley Earl and the three-martini lunch. Nonetheless, Ford’s GT40 concept car of 2002 must have proved as tempting to Blue Oval executives as it was to auto show crowds. Its concept was simple: take the LeMans-winning design of the Ford GT40 of the 1960s and translate its styling and engineering into a modern supercar.
While all of the GTs produced are designated 2005 and 2006 models, the first examples were delivered to their fortunate new owners in August 2004. The first Ford GT made available to any member of the general public was chassis number 10; this example was sold directly from the Ford Motor Company to its new owner at a charity auction, which took place in August of 2003, and was delivered the following year.
Other examples were offered to select clientele; it was considered such a privilege to be offered one of these early cars that part of the purchase agreement included a clause that the owner had to hold the car for at least 24 months, during which Ford had the right of first refusal to buy the car back. Chassis numbers 01 through 09 were reserved for “internal use” by Ford, following a long tradition of those first examples being offered mainly to Ford family members and certain executives.
Horsepower and handling was perfected with the creation of the Ford GT. The monstrous 5.4-liter V-8 engine produces a staggering 550-horsepower is coupled with a strong six-speed manual transmission. As the RPM’s rise the power will keep you pressed against your seat and the sound of the throaty V-8 brings back the classic American feel. This GT is painted in Quick Silver Clearcoat Metallic, which happens to be the lowest produced paint color. Out of 3,913 GT's only 153 were finished in this silver; this was due to the fact that the silver was only a 2005 model color. Complimenting the exterior is the sleek Ebony, black leather interior to complete the look.
Importantly, it is equipped with all four available options: painted LeMans-style body stripes, McIntosh CD stereo system, lightweight BBS forged aluminum wheels and color-matched Brembo brake calipers with four-wheel ventilated disc brakes.
This all original Ford GT has been under single ownership since it was purchased. The owner was very diligent in caring for this car. It has been used sparingly and only shows 909.8 miles on the odometer. The car includes all the factory documents and parts that were delivered with the car when it was new.
