Built in 2005 by Jason Albert and Maynard Albertson at the Konocti Motor Company in Lower Lake, California, the “Model J” is named for Jason, its inspiration and designer. Sitting on a purpose-built chrome-moly frame, it is powered by Ford’s FE-block 390-cid engine, which drives through a Borg-Warner T56 six-speed transmission to a nine-inch Ford axle with trailing arm suspension. Interestingly the radiator is located at the rear, with fans exhausting through louvers in the back of the body and coolant plumbed through the frame rails.

The interior is innovative, too. The seats are cast iron items from old tractors, with custom pedestals for lumbar support, and distressed leather covers the interior, along with bamboo and African ivory. With more than 300 handcrafted parts, the Model J is a masterpiece of ingenuity.
