James Young’s style number SCT100, a handsome touring limousine or saloon, debuted at the Earls Court Motor Show of 1962 as one of the most attractive bodies for the Silver Cloud chassis. More than half of these cars built on the Silver Cloud III chassis – a total of 20 – were delivered without a division window, as their owners preferred driving themselves over being chauffeured.

Chassis no. CBL17 was originally delivered to a C. Holt, registered as ‘ET11.’ Since being brought to the U.S., it has been owned by a series of active Rolls-Royce Owners’ Club members. In 1995 it was purchased by a well-known Southern California collector and Rolls-Royce/Bentley specialist, who began a hands-on restoration, evaluating all of the car’s mechanical components while expertly and correctly converting it to left-hand drive, including changing the shift lever button (which differs between LHD and RHD models), and fitting front and rear air conditioning with the proper ducting. The body was refinished by the well-known Bob Mosier and trimmed in Parchment Connolly hides by Prestige Auto Upholstery, with walnut trim restored by specialist Bill Rau in the correct dark James Young-style veneers. Part of this work included fitting a door on the open right-hand “cubby box,” to match the left.

Recently cosmetically freshened by Mike McCluskey, this car’s impeccable restoration and superb mechanical condition will delight its next discriminating owner.
