Corvette celebrated its 25th anniversary for 1978. With that came a new fastback glass roofline and slotted aluminum wheels. Inside, the glove box got a working door and the theft alarm system expanded to include the T-top roof panels. A larger, free-flowing exhaust and dual snorkel air cleaner provided a five-hp boost.
Corvette was chosen as the pace car for the 62nd running of the Indianapolis 500 with a total of 6,502 special black and silver models produced to commemorate the event. An additional 15,283 commemorative Silver Anniversary models were built, with two-tone silver paint and anniversary emblems to celebrate the milestone event. The $399.00 B2Z option included light upper/dark lower paint separated by tape pin striping. Corvette sales for 1978 totaled 46,776 units, down slightly from the previous model year.
This two-owner, 9,100-mile example is equipped with the L48 185-hp, 350-cu. in. V-8 and three-speed automatic transmission. Power steering, brakes, windows, locks, and antenna are featured along with a tilt steering wheel, air conditioning, cruise control, electric rear window defroster, sport mirrors, AM-FM Stereo radio, carpeted floor mats, and the typical lift-off removable roof panels. The optional factory alloy wheels are shod with white letter steel belted radial tires. Unlike most anniversary models, this car is equipped with a red leather interior, rather than the more typical silver or grey interior, providing it further distinction.
This driver-quality example is perfect for those who enjoy and use their cars. It has been well cared for, regularly serviced, and stored in a climate-controlled facility while in the possession of the consignor.
