“Introducing America’s Smartest Sports Car” is how Packard headlined select print ads in 1953. They continued with “Packard presents the Caribbean, combining distinctive European styling and responsiveness with well-loved American comfort and stamina. This spirited young Packard Caribbean is a car of sterling worth built in Packard’s rich tradition of craftsmanship and engineering.”

With design elements inspired, in part, from the 1952 Packard Pan American; the renowned Richard Teague penned the handsome lines on the Caribbean. This was the first year of model availability and only 750 examples (all convertibles) were produced. Made only as a convertible in 1953, the Continental kit was also standard equipment. This beautiful car is powered by a 327-cid, 180-hp inline eight-cylinder engine with the optional Ultramatic transmission. The Maroon Metallic finish was one of four available colors, the interior is richly appointed in complementing maroon and white leather.

The recipient of a frame-off restoration, the Packard is generously outfitted with chrome wire wheels, wide whitewall tires, full-length hood scoop, AM radio, dual sideview mirrors; power windows, top, steering and brakes. A Senior Division, National First Prize Winner in 2010 with the Antique Automobile Club of America.; this beautifully appointed and presented Packard Caribbean is reported as being period correct in all regards.
