The Maserati Trident had not been seen in the states since 1991 and after a long absence made an enormous comeback with the debut of the elegant new Spyder and Coupe’ model. The Spyder was introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2001 and the Coupe’ followed at the following year at the Detroit Motor Show. The two new models were based on the Maserati 3200 GT which was sold only in Europe introduced a few years earlier. The engine had been increased to 4.2-liters and produced 390-hp for the U.S. models. Upon introduction Forbes ranked the car as the best GT for 2001.
Giorgetto Giugiaro, one of the biggest and most famous automotive designers in history was given the task of designing the new car. Elegant sophisticated design work was given to the new Coupe’ and Spyder to make a fantastic usable car that was functional but still had excellent power to match its looks. The Coupe’ and Spyder was offered with a conventional manual gearbox or a Formula One electro-hydraulic manual gearbox. Most cars were fitted with this state of the art gearbox that was basically the same unit in the Ferrari’s that were available at the time. The Coupe’ and Spyder ran until model year 2006 with an enormous success rate that cemented Maserati’s future in the United States.
Presented in original condition and finished in Grigio Touring Metallic with Saddle interior and a black power-operated convertible top, this Maserati lives up to the accolades from the motoring press. Powerfully driven by the 4.2-liter, 390-hp V-8 engine with the F1 paddle system for the six-speed gearbox, this Maserati is also set up to provide driving comfort in the form of air conditioning, sound system with CD, factory alloy wheels and all of the expected power functions from this class of machine are onboard. Speed and elegance makes an intoxicating blend, as seen with this Maserati.
