Dodge revived the Magnum name in 2004 as a 2005 station wagon on the Chrysler LX platform. The new Magnum was an engineered station wagon version of the Chrysler 300 manufactured at the same plant in Brampton, Ontario, Canada.

The Magnum is the last mid-size station wagon (140 to 160 cubic feet of combined passenger and cargo volume) sold by an American automobile manufacturer in the United States, though Chrysler marketed the Chrysler 300 Touring variant in Europe and Australia.

The Magnum had four engine options; the SE features the 2.72-liter, 190-hp V-6, the SXT had the 3.5-liter, 250-hp V-6, and the RT had the new 5.7-liter, 340-hp Hemi V-8. The SRT-8 has a 6.1-liter, 425-hp V-8 Hemi engine. All-wheel drive became an option in 2005 on SXT and R/T models. The SRT/8, AWD SXT, and the R/T use a Mercedes-Benz-derived five-speed automatic transmission, while all other models use a four-speed automatic.

The Magnum was well-received and appeared on Car and Driver's Ten Best list for 2005.

A high performance SRT/8 version debuted at the 2005 Los Angeles Auto Show. The SRT/8 was based on a concept car that was displayed at the 2003 Los Angeles Auto Show. It went on sale in 2005 as a 2006 model. Like the 300C SRT/8, it featured the new 6.1-liter (370-cid) Hemi engine, which produces 425-hp. The car displays 20-inch wheels, firmer suspension, bigger Brembo brakes new lower-body treatment, and a revised front and rear-fascia completes the transformation. The SRT/8 was named Best New Modern Musclecar in the 2006 Canadian Car of the Year contest.

On November 1, 2007, Chrysler announced that, as part of its restructuring plans, the Dodge Magnum would be one of four models discontinued after the 2008 model year. To put the reasons in Chrysler's words: "The Magnum, along with the PT Cruiser convertible, the Crossfire, and the Pacifica were not earning their keep.” Production ended on March 28, 2008.

This 2005 Dodge Magnum R/T Station Wagon was donated to Washtenaw Community College’s Auto Restoration and Hot Rod Fabrication Program located in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The basis for the donation was that the car would be customized by the students as a class project and then sold. The funds of sale would then be used to further the college’s automotive programs. This vehicle was modified and customized by the students of the college during a two- to three-year period. Upon completion, the vehicle was shown at several local car shows, including the Detroit Autorama before being sold to the current owner.

Several modifications were done to the car including custom paint, a redesigned front grille and fascia, air ride suspension, custom chrome five-spoke wheels, low-profile tires, a custom sound system, custom hood graphics and a slightly modified interior.

This vehicle remains in virtually the same condition as it was when purchased by the current owners. The custom purple paint with its ghost graphics remains in excellent to like new condition showing hardly any wear or damage. The door, hood and rear hatch fit is good with even gaps and margins throughout. The leather interior remains in like new condition including the carpets, door panels, headliner, rear storage area and dashboard. The original front center console has been modified to accommodate the air ride gauges. This vehicle also has a factory-installed sunroof and custom tinted windows.

The engine bay and chassis are extremely clean and very well detailed and show hardly any signs of use or wear. The custom chrome wheels are like new with no scrapes, abrasions or oxidation and the custom, low profile tires show hardly any wear. The brakes have color-coded brake calipers.

The rear storage compartment has been modified to accept a custom audio system and is equipped with additional batteries to power the aftermarket system and other accessories.

Overall, this is a unique and well-presented example of a limited production, contemporary collectible that would be a welcomed addition at any custom car show. It has been rarely driven and the title lists the mileage as actual and the odometer displays approximately 1,500 miles. One might say a practically new 10 year old car.
