In November 2004, RUF debuted their first house-built automobile, the Rt12. At first glance, its Porsche roots were obvious, and it utilized Porsche’s then-new 997-generation chassis. Look closer, however, and you will discover that the Rt12 is an entirely different beast.

The first distinction is the Rt12’s powerplant, a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six based on an earlier “M96” blueprint. It is mated to a RUF six-speed transaxle and limited-slip rear differential, routing power rearward through massive 12.5-inch-wide wheels. Other exclusive touches include a fully adjustable hydraulic suspension with front axle lift system, carbon fiber decklid, and three-piece OZ Superleggera wheels. The Rt12 was superseded in 2009 by the Rt12 S, which featured a new aero kit, ceramic brake system, and output increased to 694 horsepower.


This RUF Rt12 S was originally clad in GT Silver over a full cocoa brown leather interior and delivered new to Miami, Florida in February 2007 as a “standard” Rt12 for RUF Automobile of America. Specifications included an integrated roll cage, tall sixth gear, sport seats, BOSE sound system, and hydraulic suspension. Just prior to delivery, it was tested and reviewed by EVO magazine at the Nürburgring Nordschliefe, wearing the RUF fleet registration “MN100-B.”

With the car showing nearly 11,500 miles by July 2009, its original owner sent it back to RUF for all the “S” upgrades and a refinish in matte black paint. The rebuilt and improved Rt12 S returned stateside in February 2011, ready to live up to its reputation as one of the fastest cars in the world. Its original owner quickly tacked on another 10,000 miles, after which he consigned the car to Lamborghini Palm Beach in September 2012. Despite its unique configuration and remarkable performance, this Rt12 S remained on consignment until December 2015, when it was purchased by VINwiki founder Ed Bolian of Atlanta, Georgia.

From Bolian, it later passed to Huber Motor Cars in Fredricksburg, Virginia. In December 2018, Huber sent the car to RUF-trained specialist Charlie Lacy at Innovative Autosports in Carrollton, Texas for a complete mechanical recommissioning costing $32,000. Using only OEM RUF parts directly from Pfaffenhausen, this Rt12 S received a complete engine rebuild, water pump, clutch, rear main seal, brake lines, and four rebuilt brake calipers. Additionally, all belts, seals, and gaskets were replaced throughout the engine and hydraulic suspension system. Its OZ Superleggera wheels were similarly reconditioned and wrapped with a fresh set of Michelin Pilot Sport tires, while the Recaro carbon fiber seats were appointed with a striking pair of RUF pepita inserts. This recommissioning was completed in August 2019 and was finalized with a full PPF which presently coats the entire exterior.

Now offered with RUF order and upgrade documentation, as well as 2018–2019 service invoices, this Rt12 S is one of very few produced, and it is believed to be the sole US-market example.
