Most likely prompted by his work with Nash, Donald Healey set about building a prototype around British Austin running gear in time for the October 1952 London Motor Show. Healey saw the popularity of British sports cars with American servicemen in Europe and wisely conjectured that there was a market for his sporting roadster.

He took the car to Jabbeke, the Belgian highway considered de rigueur in testing the high-speed capability of sports cars at the time. The new car covered the flying kilometer at 111 mph. A few days and headlines later, he presented the car, quite appropriately, at Earls Court. The car was christened the Healey Hundred, reflecting its 100 mph+ top speed.

This fabulous Austin-Healey 100, showing less than 48,000 miles on its odometer, still wears its original Spruce Green color and beautiful matching dark green leather interior. It comes with a perfectly fitting green convertible top and green tonneau cover, along with the original side screens in excellent condition and a complete tool roll. It is fitted with overdrive and dealer-installed Marchal driving lamp along with the Le Mans package cold air box and louvered hood. The original hood is included with the car as well. It is shod with new period-correct Dunlop tires.

This car has been cared for by each of its owners with great respect. It was restored in the late ’80s by its second owner at which time it was the subject of a multi-page article in the Austin-Healey Club’s Chatter magazine, attesting to its originality as a Gold level car. It is also featured in The Healey Book, a copy of which is included with the car. It has all the necessary documents from new, including an original owner’s manual signed by Donald Healey.

This car has been meticulously cared for by its current owner, a fastidious collector from Pennsylvania, and stored in a temperature-controlled garage. It is in absolutely perfect working order and drives as well as when new. It is ready to provide great fun for its new owner.
