Seldom do model names get so tangled as Dodge’s use of “Custom,” “Royal” and “Lancer.” This car uses the descriptive banner of all three. “Custom” was an upscale level of trim, “Lancer,” was initially Dodge’s name for a pillarless “hardtop,” either coupe or sedan. “Royal,” was a V-8-only series, the top line until “Custom Royal” upstaged it in 1955. That year, also, the Lancer name was applied to three of the four Custom Royal body styles, a sedan and a convertible as well as the hardtop coupe.

Running the Super Red Ram V-8 engine with a four-barrel carburetor and dual exhaust with chromed exhaust tips and is matched to an automatic transmission; this Custom Royal is reported with an original black cloth and white vinyl interior with red-toned carpets plus a professional repaint in exciting tri-tones of the era that resemble the factory colors of Cameo Red, Sapphire White and Jewel Black. The dashboard is reported as being “near perfect original.” Kelsey-Hayes chromed wire wheels with wide whitewall tires really set the exceptional period sense of style, the tires are reported as BFGoodrich Silvertowns. The chrome and trim elements are described as being in excellent condition, while equipment includes seatbelts, AM radio, day/night mirror, dual sideview mirrors, heater/defroster, original trunk mat, spare, jack; power steering and brakes.
