The 1959 Coronets continued with Exners influence, and varied slightly from the previous model years. The most noticeable change was inside the car where the option of a front swivel seat was available for ingress and egress; and a new elliptical steering wheel was in place.
In 1991, this rust-free car from Pomona, California had its restoration completed by Jerry Kopecky. Jerry started restoration work in 1989, and gained fin-car fame when a 1957 De Soto that he restored sold for a record breaking amount. Jerry, the craftsman who restored this Coronet, purchased this car from the estate of his former customer.
This stunning pink two-tone automobile has won People’s Choice at the Milwaukee Masterpiece and Best of Show in other concours events. The car is also reported to have appeared in numerous magazines and on many book covers.
Under the hood is a strong eight-cylinder engine that is connected to a fully automatic transmission. The lovely exterior is adorned with lovely brightwork, whitewall tires, full wheel covers and fender skirts; plus dual antennas and fender-mounted mirrors. The pink and black two-tone interior is presented nicely, and convenience features on this fin car are a radio, power steering and brakes.
A period advertisement said it best, “The sparkling Dodge Coronet for 1959 has the rich quality feel and look that you would expect only in cars costing hundreds of dollars more.”
