In addition to a facelift for 1967, the mid-size Belvedere line added the GTX model in an attempt to compete with the popular GTO. Car & Driver said, “GTO owners better look to their defenses,” as they recorded a 14.4 second ¼-mile at 98mph. Powered by a standard 375-hp, 440-cid Super Commando V-8 engine, included were dual hood scoops, dual exhaust, redline tires, and a pit-stop gas cap. This was no stripper muscle car and as such sales suffered with only about 2,000 coupes sold when new.
Equipped with power steering, air conditioning, automatic transmission, power windows, and AM radio, this is the perfect gentleman’s muscle car.
