In 1962 Chevrolet launched the compact Chevy II as a direct competitor to the successful Ford Falcon. Although ‘Nova’ lost out as the name for the new model, Chevrolet retained the Nova moniker as the name for their top tier of the model range. The Nova models sold so well that the Nova name eventually replaced Chevy II across the range. For 1966 Chevrolet introduced the second-generation Chevy II Novas. The wide selection of engine options peaked with the rare giant-killer L79 Turbo-Fire V-8. The fast-revving 327cid L79 could quickly deliver 350 horsepower in the compact Nova while proving more agile than many larger displacement muscle cars.

Highly-respected Chevrolet historian Jerry MacNeish has certified this car as an original L79 Nova SS that still carries its original engine. Of the 20,986 Nova Super Sports produced in 1966, only 5,481 left the factory with the Corvette-derived L79 engine. In addition, this 4-speed is equipped with the Hurst Line-Lock shifter.

The performance of this L79 Nova SS is enhanced by period-correct Torque Thrust wheels, high performance Hooker headers, and traction bars. Painted Madeira Maroon, it is fitted with a black vinyl bucket seat interior with matching console in addition to a column-mounted tach and under dash gauge cluster to monitor performance. The rarity, high performance, low mileage, and known ownership history (including 25 years with one family) vault this car to the top of any muscle car wish list.
