Having modernized the entire line with all-new bodies in 1948, Cadillac completed the makeover in ’49 with two more surprises: a high-compression overhead valve V-8 engine and a new Coupe DeVille “hardtop convertible.” Although the Coupe DeVille offered the style of a convertible without the wind, there were still customers who liked the open air. For them there was only the Series 62 Convertible Coupe.

Powering this convertible is a 160-hp, 331-cid OHV V-8 engine backed by a Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. The paint has been updated in Poly Triumph Blue with chrome bumpers, trim and wide whitewall tires with chrome factory wheel covers highlighting the exterior. This convertible has a working canvas power top, refurbished Burgundy leather interior by Fleetwood, clock, spotlight, heater and power windows.

With 8,000 built, the Series 62 convertible was second only to the four-door sedan in sales, and scored four times the production of the new Coupe DeVille hardtop. Regardless, they seldom appear today, so this car represents an uncommon opportunity.
