In 1963 the Belvedere line went through a complete redesign over the previous year, and gone was the wild look with a more conservative, clean look adopted. The same 116-inch wheelbase was retained, but the cars were 300 pounds lighter. Combined with the Super Stock 426 (426 Max Wedge) the Plymouth’s were all but unbeatable at the dragstrip, especially if they were factory lightweight cars. Times at the quarter mile were down in the low 12's and even the 11's with factory cars. In 1964 there was a significant body style change, primarily with the front end and roof line. Of more importance, was the introduction of the Stage III Super Stock 426, and then later in the year, the Race Hemi was made available. This was the start of the legendary history of the 426 Hemi.

Sporting a 426-cid Max Wedge engine with a four-speed transmission, this Sport Fury was purchased new in Oakland, California with the very same white and blue color scheme as the famed Melrose Missile Plymouths. It was fully restored in every area a short time ago and has since been maintained and detailed for exhibition. The engine compartment, home to the massive 426 cubic inch mill, is exceptional. It was delivered new with the A833 four-speed transmission, AM radio, heater/defrost, backup lights, and Dual Jet windshield washer. From correct hoses and clamps, to the proper finish on each component, it is very difficult to fault. Likewise, the interior is just as the dealership would have sold it when new, with all trim, upholstery and gauges in excellent condition. Viewed and authenticated by noted expert Galen Govier, this Sport Fury has been restored to a superlative finish and is believed to be the only example in existence with this specific combination of colors and options.
