After World War II, most automakers were just happy to get anything they could produce out of the factory doors and into the hands of a car-hungry public. It was a seller's market destined to last for only a few short years. At Ford Motor Company, this issue was addressed from the moment production resumed; even before the final victories had been won. Styling was a competitive operation, as Ford solicited ideas from freelance designers as well as from its own design department. Independent designer, George Walker’s team, developed the final accepted model. In June 1948, Ford impressed the entire industry and the public when they came out with the totally new and thoroughly modern looking 1949 line-up. Featuring slab-side design with integral fenders, horizontal tail lights, spacious interiors, and dramatic yet tasteful features, the car was credited with saving the company from financial ruin.

This convertible, while retaining much of its original appearance, has been updated in several ways in recent years. A professional body-off restoration was done in 2002. The upholstery was upgraded to leather and continues to present like new, while a full convertible top boot has also been added. The engine compartment now boasts a 289-cid V-8 with a four barrel carburetor, and a manual column-shift transmission insures a vintage driving experience. Also found is an original AM push button radio, Magic Aire heater/defroster, turn signals, power top, chrome grille guard, spot light, headlamp visors and full wheel covers. The car is well detailed and it is stated to run and drive well.
