The Buick Gran Sport was launched in 1964. The high performance Gran Sport model, released in 1965, was equipped with a 360 horsepower, 425 cubic inch V-8 engine, and advertised by Buick as “An iron fist in a velvet glove.” In 1968 the second generation body would carry it through 1972, the end of the musclecar era. The 1972 Gran Sport would be the last of Buicks musclecars until the Grand National a decade later. Although production numbers were not significantly high, these cars are well remembered as premier in their category. The Stage 1 and Stage 2 in particular, strike a chord because they combined a profuse amount of power with luxury.

In 1972, Buick would produce only 81 Gran Sport Stage 1 convertibles. Adding even more rarity is the fact that they only manufactured two in Arctic White with a white top, this car is said to be one of two ever produced and confirmed by factory build sheets from the Sloan-Longway museum, which houses Buick’s build sheets.

This Arctic White Gran Sport Stage 1, comes well equipped with numerous factory options. The engine is a high performance 455-cid V-8 engine, believed to be original to the car, with through-bumper exhaust extensions, married to a Turbo Hydra-Matic 400 transmission. It has power disc brakes, fast variable ratio power steering, front and rear bumper guards with bumper strips. The car is riding on chrome-plated factory sport wheels, with Firestone Super Wide Oval white-letter tires, Rallye firm ride and handling which includes heavy-duty suspension and springs.

The interior is tailored with white vinyl bench seats and power vinyl top along with many factory options. These options include: Sonomatic radio with rear speaker, air conditioning, soft-ray tinted glass, outside rear view sport mirrors, Buick floor mats, power windows and Cruise Master cruise control with tilt steering fitted with a Rallye steering wheel. It has the convenience group option which has a light in the trunk, hood, glovebox, ashtray, mirror map and courtesy lights. The factory gauge pack features a tachometer.

The complete and thorough restoration of this car was completed in 2007. The top and interior were done by Tailored Trim of New Philadelphia, Ohio. The car is said to have been driven limited miles since the restoration. Included with the car is a complete factory build sheet documentation.
