- With fuel economy weighing on American’s minds because of the Arab Oil Embargo of 1973 and 1974 Chevrolet introduced the 350-cid small-block with a two-barrel carb that came standard in all Caprice models. Also introduced as part of being “Economical” in 1975 were GM’s High Energy electric ignition, “Econominder” gauge package including a temperature gauge and a “fuel econominder” which alerted drivers when their driving caused the engine to use more or less fuel
