Cadillac’s 1966 line featured more muscular and modern styling, featuring crisp, clean edges combined with the distinctive upright headlights introduced the prior year. It was a beautiful and strongly designed car on a rock-solid perimeter frame that provided ample interior room. Power came from the famous 429-cubic-inch V-8 providing 340 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque, delivered through a Turbo Hydramatic transmission. The DeVille line continued to be Cadillac’s mainstay and included the always-popular convertible, of which an impressive 19,200 were made.

The DeVille Convertible offered here is recorded on its build record copy on file as having been finished in Cape Ivory with a black top and matching black leather interior. In addition to the usual comfort amenities for this luxury model—including the Turbo Hydramatic transmission, power steering, and power brakes—it was also specified with power seat and windows, AM radio, Soft Ray tinted glass, climate control, and chrome door guards.

While its original delivery location remains locked within the cryptic “outlet code” General Motors used in this era, it is obvious that the car lived a fortunate and well-loved existence. Refinished in its striking correct color, it retains its original interior and top, both in excellent condition for their age. Furthermore, present owner Michael Leith strongly believes that the mileage—21,114 at the time of cataloguing—is actual, as the undercarriage and engine compartment are both unusually clean and well-preserved, with even factory chalk marks still present under the hood, and the chassis and body tags still intact and in good condition. Yet this is no fossilized showpiece. Upon acquisition, Mr. Leith converted the car’s air conditioning to modern 134A refrigerant, installed new radial tires, and proceeded to take it on a 200-mile road trip without difficulty.

Simply put, this is a delightful Cadillac, in thoroughly reassuring condition both inside and out, that displays the good care it has apparently always received.
