Although the first series cars introduced the Corvette to America, it was the second series, launched in 1956, which earned Corvette the title “America’s Sports Car”. The clean good looks of Harley Earl’s new body struck a chord with the American public, and the new design was soon outselling the older style by a margin of three to one.

When first introduced, the Corvettes had a straight six; it took three model years before the first V-8 (162-hp) was offered. By 1962, engine options offered buyers a range from 230 to 360 horsepower, the latter being the legendary 327 cubic inch fuel-injected V-8 such as this beautiful car has under the hood. The 1961 model year brought Corvette a new look that carried over into 1962, the year of the car offered here. The teeth were eliminated from the grille, and most prominently a newly-contoured tail section gave rise to the nickname “duck tail.” A precursor to the radical Sting Ray of 1963, it gave the public a preview of things to come.

The exciting Corvette on offer has the coveted 327-cid, 360-hp fuel-injected engine in which only 1,918 were built by the factory. Its sporting nature is heightened by the optional four-speed manual gearbox; it is reported that the Corvette has the correct drivetrain throughout. Finished in Fawn Beige with a matching interior, the car also exhibits the optional accessory hardtop, radio, whitewall tires and spinner hubcaps. The Corvette is precise cosmetically and mechanically.
