In 1970, Ford Motor Company was looking to further expand its international racing presence. They saw a partnership with DeTomaso not only as a way of further promoting themselves, but also as a way to enter the mid-engine, small European sports car market which was increasingly gaining popularity in America. Alejandro DeTomaso went to work designing an all-new, mid-engine sports car which would be called the DeTomaso Pantera, and it was set to be powered by Ford “Cleveland” overhead valve V-8 engine with a cubic inch displacement of 351. They mated this engine to a ZF five-speed manual transmission and the result was a respected Italian sports car with American reliability.

This 1972 Pantera comes with a Deluxe Marti Report and is well-equipped with air conditioning, power windows, leather interior, Campagnolo cast alloy wheels, power four-wheel disc brakes and owner’s manual. The cockpit has a feel for being “all-business” with its bucket seats, gear selector shift-gate and well-placed and complete instrumentation. Available records show that this is one of only 244 manufactured in blue. The jack is in the front boot of the car, and it also comes with various associated books. This Pantera is a truly outstanding example which is reported to have less than 14,000 original miles.
