Model M-601. 230-cid, 120-hp L-head inline six-cylinder engine, four-speed manual transmission with two-speed transfer case, live front and rear axles with semi-elliptic leaf springs, and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes. Wheelbase: 126-inches

Dodge’s iconic Power Wagon was born of World War II. As they did for the Jeep, at war’s end thousands of soldiers had affection for the Dodge WC-series military weapons carriers, command cars and communication vans. Using the same rugged mechanical components as the military vehicles, the Power Wagon debuted to the civilian market late in 1945. Only a slightly blunted nose, conventional lighting and choice of colors distinguished it from its enlisted forebears. Nearly all of them were closed-cab pickups.

Less well known is the M-601, an open Power Wagon built for export and sold mostly to foreign military services. This is just such a truck, fully restored in dark blue. It has a black canvas roof and roll-down side curtains, a foldout windshield and is outfitted with jerry cans, a front-mounted winch and AVM locking front hubs. The restoration has been comprehensive and is of high quality.

The M-601 Power Wagon was exported to services in South America, Mexico, Europe and the Mid-east. A Spanish/English bilingual VIN plate suggests this one may have been repatriated from a Spanish-speaking country.
