Land Rover released the 110 in 1983 as an updated version of the original Land Rover from 1948. Changes between the two included the introduction of coil springs, a permanent four-wheel-drive system, a taller windscreen, and a more powerful selection of engines. Cosmetic updates to the 110 were minor, but included a full-length bonnet and wheel arch extensions. 110 indicated its wheelbase of 110 inches; the shorter 90 and longer 127 soon followed.
This particular example, features the favorable two-door, soft top configuration while retaining the 110 inch wheelbase. It’s powered by a factory-specified 3.5-liter Rover V-8 engine mated to a manual transmission. Passengers behind the driver’s cockpit are greeted by four fold-down seats, perfect for hauling equipment or taking the family on off-road adventures.
Recently, the car underwent a full nut-and-bolt restoration. However, in order to better equip the car for the 21st century, numerous upgrades were implemented throughout. The interior boasts a Safety Devices roll cage, suede Tyrex steering wheel, a JVC infotainment system, new Exmoor Trim black canvas soft top, and aluminum gear shifters for both the transmission and high and low range transfer case. When exploring the exterior, the car utilizes Bearmach shock absorbers, Bearmach Blue +5CM Smooth Ride lift springs, allowing for larger Cooper Discoverer SST tires. Further upgrades include headers, stainless steel exhaust, stainless steel extended brake lines, a Terrafirma wireless remote winch, and upgraded LED headlamps. A complete list of upgrades can be found in the digital file. As if its upgrades and current condition weren’t enough, this car has just covered 35 kilometers since its restoration.
As off-road vehicles of this era become more and more appreciated, this Defender 110 presents the excellent opportunity to acquire a piece of Land Rover royalty.
