With the commencement of the 1957 model year, Oldsmobile endeavored to celebrate their sixtieth anniversary in style. Buyers were treated to a suite of new options, revised model dimensions, and a restyling for their catalog which would ultimately serve as a bookend to the marque’s aesthetic developed in 1952.

This 1957 Super 88 Convertible is just one of 7,128 examples produced; it is believed to have been delivered new to California. It is desirably equipped with a smattering of power amenities, push-button Wonderbar radio, dual exhausts, wide whitewall tires, and a 371-cubic-inch “Rocket” V-8 engine paired with an automatic transmission.

At some point in the 1990s, the car was acquired by noted collector Glenn Patch and subject to a rotisserie restoration courtesy of his collection manager, Bob Schmidt. A well-regarded auto restorer in his own right, Schmidt reportedly rebuilt the engine, carburetors, transmission and brakes. The interior and exterior were completely refinished in the period-correct and desirable shade of Jade Mist over matching upholstery; the brightwork, trim, and power convertible top were similarly refreshed. Following Mr. Schmidt’s exacting work, this beautiful Oldsmobile joined the remainder of Patch’s collection of 1957-year automobiles in Arizona. In 2007, Patch opened his ’57 Heaven museum in Branson, Missouri, and the car was moved to that location and exhibited in a period-style exhibition until 2009.

Having entered the Pacific Coast Highway Collection in 2011, this alluring Super 88 Convertible has been carefully stored and exhibited over the past decade.
