The Legendary 1969 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray ZL-1 Convertible

The 1969 Chevrolet ZL-1 Corvette enjoys a mythical status among production Corvettes.

For Corvette collectors, three letters stand above the rest: ZL-1. So few third-generation Corvettes were ordered with the RPO ZL-1 option pack that these have become collector-grade items even among the most prestigious collectors. Purchased new by John W. Maher of Leechburg, Pennsylvania, in 1969, this example is one of only two factory-documented ZL-1 Corvettes, and the only Convertible. Powered by a lightweight version of the legendary 427-cubic-inch L88 V-8 engine, this is a potent muscle car. Confirmed by marque expert Kevin Kay and first owner John W. Maher, this all-American classic crossed the block at RM Sotheby’s Arizona 2023 auction and easily surpassed the record for the most expensive Corvette ever sold at $3,140,000. A capstone car for any collector.
