Racing History: A 1952 Jaguar C-Type Driven by Derek and Phil Hill

Building the competition heritage of a brand like Jaguar took years of success, no shortage of advanced engineering, and many noteworthy drivers.

Phil Hill is inarguably one of the most famous drivers of his era, yet he only drove for Jaguar in one single race and one single car: This 1952 Jaguar C-Type. One of only 53 ever made, with a powerful six-cylinder engine paired with a lightweight tube-frame chassis. Available for the first time after three decades of careful ownership, this chassis was raced by Phil Hill at the Lone Star 200 in Austin, Texas, finishing 2nd place overall. Watch as Derek Hill, a skilled racer in his own right, drives the same Jaguar that his father once competed in. A truly special Jaguar that will be offered by RM Sotheby’s at our Monterey 2023 auction.
