Powered by the 4.1-litre, outside-plug, big-block Tipo 126/C V-12 engine—one of only two chassis to feature this motor—this 1955 Ferrari 410 Sport Spider by Scaglietti proved to be the ultimate prancing horse of its period. Driven by famous racing drivers from Phil Hill to Juan Manuel Fangio, this chassis was made most famous by the spirited Texan Carroll Shelby. Winning more races in this chassis than any other car in his history as a driver, Shelby helped further the Ferrari brand on the tracks of America as he also established his own reputation. It seemed only fitting that the spirit of Carroll Shelby be referenced in this video, filmed on Thunder Hill Raceway in advance of RM Sotheby’s record-breaking Monterey 2022 auction. Undoubtedly the highlight of the auction, this Ferrari 410 Sport Spider achieved a stunning $22,005,000 USD at the August event. A worthy result for a car that Shelby inscribed with this summary: “Mr. Ferrari told me that this was the best Ferrari he ever built.”
