As BBC Top Gear’s former Stig, Ben Collins, discovered, racing the real thing far exceeded the experience of any simulator. Featuring an 8.0-litre V-10 engine producing 780 horsepower, with carbon fiber body panels contributing to the 1,150 kg curb weight, Collins found the Chrysler a nimble, responsive ride around Circuit de la Sarthe. Raced by John Morton and Justin Bell at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1997, this car helped re-establish the pedigree of American motorsports.
Certainly, Collins commented positively on the “pinpoint precision” of the GTS-R as well as its “playful throttle.” Watch to see the notoriously opinionated, yet tame racing driver won over by the ten-cylinder American sports car on track.
