Following the conclusion of World War I, Fiat introduced the 501 in 1919 as the company’s new small family car. Powered by a four-cylinder, 1.5-litre engine with a four-speed gearbox, the chassis featured rear brakes and rigid axles suspended by semi-elliptical leaf springs. Customers could choose from body styles that included a four-door saloon, or a "Torpedo" cabriolet with either two or four doors.
