The Porsche 70th Anniversary Auction
Porsche Experience Center Atlanta, Atlanta, Georgia
RM | SOTHEBY'S
RM Sotheby's, in collaboration with the Porsche Experience Center Atlanta, is delighted to announce The Porsche 70th Anniversary Auction, an exclusive, single-marque auction to be held at the ground-breaking home of Porsche Cars North America (PCNA) in Atlanta. Set for the weekend of 27 October, the sale shortly follows official U.S. 70th anniversary celebrations taking place as part of Porsche Rennsport Reunion VI and will feature approximately 70 of the world's most important and most sought-after collectible Porsche models, spanning the marque's illustrious 70-year history as a sports car manufacturer.
RM Sotheby's has long established itself as a market leader in the sale of rare, significant Porsche cars at auction, with exceptional examples offered across the company's North American and European calendar of auction events. In the last two years alone, RM Sotheby's has been at the helm of a nascent and developing sector of collectible Porsche vehicles, which broke ground at the company's 2016 London sale and brought global attention to the collectability of Type 993 911 specials. RM Sotheby's has continued to bring outstanding Porsche cars to auction, most notably led by single-owner groups which have yielded record results at its Paris, Amelia Island, Villa Erba, and Monterey events.
The American market has always played a pivotal role for Porsche, beginning with the introduction of the legendary 356 Speedster in the mid-1950s. Today, this importance is evident with the opening of the Porsche Experience Center in Atlanta—the first immersive brand center built by Porsche in North America—which also houses the corporate headquarters of Porsche Cars North America (PCNA). This one-of-kind, state-of-the-art facility showcases a commitment to both design and functionality and serves to provide an incomparable experience among automotive brands. Beyond its captivating architecture, One Porsche Drive invites customers, business partners, and brand enthusiasts alike to celebrate every aspect of Porsche. The Porsche Experience Center supplies the perfect setting for an auction marking milestone models in the brand's incredible road and motorsport lineage. A second North American Experience Center opened in November of 2016 in Carson, California, and shares its home with Porsche Motorsport North America (PMNA).
"RM Sotheby's entire global team is thrilled to be working with Porsche to present the Porsche 70th Anniversary Sale," says Kenneth Ahn, President of RM Sotheby's. "We've witnessed record-setting results and incredible atmosphere at several manufacturer-supported single-marque sales over the last decade, and we look forward to offering our clients an unparalleled auction experience in Atlanta this fall. The Porsche Experience Center demonstrates the incredible lifestyle that Porsche ownership affords and celebrates the ultimate enjoyment of any of their models—driving them. Spectacularly designed with attention to detail paid in every regard, from the upholstered seats in Restaurant 356 to the precision of the track, Porsche DNA is visible in every square inch of the place. We look forward to collaborating with Porsche to deliver an unforgettable experience for Porsche collectors and enthusiasts in celebrating the brand's 70th Anniversary."
"We are excited to open our doors to RM Sotheby's exclusive Porsche-only sale this coming October," said Andre Oosthuizen, Vice-President of Marketing for Porsche Cars North America. "Even before the full concept of our first Porsche Experience Center in North America saw the light of day, we realized the tremendous opportunities a facility like this would attract. In fact, in the three short years since our Grand Opening, we've hosted multiple major movie productions, have seen 115,000 enthusiasts come through our doors, opened the Porsche Classic Center, and created rotating displays in our Heritage Gallery. Our Porsche Experience Centers are a natural location for a classic automotive auction of this magnitude, and we look forward to working closely with RM Sotheby's to ensure they, and their guests, have a successful weekend at our home in Atlanta."
Making for a weekend packed with automotive excitement, the entire Porsche Experience Center Atlanta (PECATL) will be open for RM Sotheby's registered bidders to enjoy, all made easily accessible thanks to the facility's location adjacent to the runways of Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
