The Unic Kegresse P107 half-track entered production in 1937. The P107 completed its entire production run of 3,276 prior to the German occupation of France in 1940. Some were used by the Free French Forces in North Africa, most coming from Vichy French inventories, with others coming from the evacuation of Allied French forces and vehicles from Norway. The Germans immediately utilized the P107 half-tracks in the same role as the French Army, as an artillery tractor. The Unics, German designation U304(f), were used to tow the German 10.5-cm leFH18 howitzer and the 7.5-cm Pak 40 anti-tank gun. Initially, the only modification the Germans performed on the Unic half-tracks was the addition of an armored superstructure behind the driver’s cab. In 1943, many of the U304(f)s were heavily modified with a completely armored superstructure and hull. Most of the armored Unics were used as ambulances and armored personnel carriers. The majority of the armored U304(f) halftracks were issued to Panzergrenadier (armored infantry) units serving in France. A small number were further modified, as displayed, with the addition of a 2-cm Flak 38 anti-aircraft gun, with armored shield, capable of up to 400 rounds-per-minute. This anti-aircraft gun has been demilitarized.
