  • The ultimate evolution of the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series

The Mercedes-AMG GT made its debut in 2015 as a successor to the highly regarded SLS AMG and has remained a formidable competitor in the supercar sphere ever since. As the second sportscar to be developed entirely in-house by Mercedes-AMG, it showcases the brand's commitment to producing highly advanced performance models that excel on the track, while also maintaining astounding levels of comfort and luxury in true Mercedes-Benz fashion.

At its core is a superbly balanced front mid-engine, rear-drive chassis powered by uprated, hand-built versions of the company’s familiar 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 engine, making 456 horsepower in the base model and 503 horsepower in the GT S. Subsequent GT C and GT R models elevated performance even further, with track-focused enhancements and, of course, more power.

In 2020, Mercedes-AMG pushed the already-impressive performance even further with a Black Series variant imbued with years of motorsport experience, making for truly extreme driving dynamics. Developed exclusively for use in the GT Black Series, the fearsome M178 LS2 twin-turbo V-8 produced a remarkable 720 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. This impressive powertrain together with the well-balanced chassis featuring enhanced aerodynamics helped the AMG GT Black Series set a new lap record for unmodified production cars at the infamous Nürburgring racetrack in 2020.

An even more special Black Series would follow in 2021. To whet the appetite of—and perhaps placate—customers who put deposits down on the ultra-rare $2.72-million Project One hypercar—delivered in 2022 following several delays—Mercedes-AMG offered a special edition of the GT Black Series exclusively to those customers. Dubbed the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series Project One Edition, it featured a distinctive livery inspired by the Mercedes-AMG F1 W11 EQ Performance Formula One racecar. The unique paint scheme incorporated Mercedes-Benz's three-pointed star logo in an eye-catching pattern that started at the doors and blended artfully into the rear of the car. Teal accents inside and out gave a nod to Petronas, Mercedes’ longtime F1 partner, whose color is also featured on the AMG F1 W11. Unconfirmed production estimates for the AMG GT Black Series Project One Edition are 40 units worldwide with a little more than half allocated to the United States.

The example offered here is finished in classic Cirrus Silver Metallic, a shade well familiar to fans of Mercedes’ legendary Silver Arrow racecars. Remarkably well-preserved and in virtually showroom condition, it has been prized and pampered its entire life, evidenced by the extremely low odometer reading of 321 miles at time of cataloguing.

Replete with all the performance and luxury features that make the AMG GT Black Series a top-tier supercar, this exceedingly rare offering benefits from unparalleled exclusivity within Mercedes-Benz’s recent product portfolio, making it a perfect choice for the marque enthusiast or supercar collector seeking a beautifully presented example of the absolute pinnacle of German performance cars.
