Built on the platform of the C209-generation Mercedes-Benz CLK, a generation that saw convertibles, coupés and AMG models, including the desirable 'Black Series', the CLK DTM AMG is without doubt the most desirable of its brethren. Built to celebrate Bernd Schneider's Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters championship win in 2003, the CLK DTM AMG was as close to his race car as customers could get while still being able to drive their new Mercedes-Benz on the road.

Powered by a 5.4-litre supercharged V-8 producing 582 bhp and mated to a Mercedes-Benz SpeedShift 5G-Tronic automatic transmission, the CLK DTM AMG can sprint to a top speed of 320 km/h and a 0–100 km/h time of just four seconds. Any depression of the accelerator past 40% and the hand built powerplant screams towards redline; as the traction control management is notoriously primitive–the coupe downshifts aggressively and rockets forward when spurred. Though most road-cars are best capable of smoking their rear tires during a stand-still burnout—the CLK DTM AMG is known to accomplish the same feat, with remarkable regularity, well into third gear.

The interior sits firmly at the intersection of performance and luxury. Defined by a pair of leather and Alcantara trimmed bucket seats, the car sports a DTM-inspired Alcantara-trimmed steering wheels as well, but also all the amenities one would expect from a top-of-the-line Mercedes-Benz. With wider rear fender flares, a large rear spoiler and larger wheels all round, the CLK DTM AMG is a sight to behold on the open road.

Finished in Obsidian Black over a black leather and Alcantara interior, this example is just one of forty right-hand drive CLK DTM AMG coupes produced. Completed on November 11, 2004, this chassis was delivered new to the United Kingdom and first registered for road use on September 1, 2005 with the registration of ‘FJ55 XXF’. Accompanying entries in its original maintenance booklet detail each appointment back to January 2006 and 1,800 miles indicated. All services noted through July 2018 have been documented by Mercedes-Benz of Derby, and Mercedes-Benz of Nottingham, respectively. In preparation for sale, the consignor has enlisted Mercedes-Benz of Brooklands to complete a fresh service

With an MSRP of more than €230.000, the CLK DTM AMG was a truly exclusive automobile for a short-list of enthusiasts with means. This was a popular street car for racing drivers as well, with examples being owned by Formula One drivers Juan Pablo Montoya, Mika Hakkinen, Kimi Raikkonen and Jenson Button.

Now presented with just under 6,300 miles indicated, this well documented and exceedingly rare high-performance coupe is not for the faint of heart. Without a doubt amongst the most radical and exciting Mercedes-Benz AMGs produced thus far into the 21st century and an automobile with direct links to motorsport.
