For the 1998 CART FedEx Championship Series Newman/Haas Racing fielded two cars, the #6 Texaco/Havoline car piloted by Michael Andretti and the #11 Kmart car piloted by Christian Fittipaldi (with Roberto Moreno filling in for one race). Team cars for the season were Swift 009.c models with Goodyear tires. They were powered by Ford XB engines.

The 19-race season would see Newman/Haas Racing team drivers achieve podium finishes in seven races, highlighted by Michael Andretti winning the first race of the season, the Marlboro Grand Prix of Miami held at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Other individual team highlights include Christian Fittipaldi securing the fastest lap at the Molson Indy Toronto, and Michael Andretti achieving pole position at the Road America Texaco/Havoline 200. Michael Andretti and Christian Fittipaldi would finish 7th and 14th, respectively, in the drivers’ standings for the 1998 season.

This 1998 Swift-Ford 009.c was Driven by Michael Andretti at the 1998 Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. Andretti would qualify 6th, but a tire issue would end his day after just 54 laps. Other race-associated history for this car was its use in testing by Michael Andretti at Elkhart Lake two days before the Texaco/Havoline 200 held at Road America, however, it was not driven in the race.

Leading up to the start of the 1998 season this car was used in testing by Michael Andretti and Christian Fittipaldi. Over the course of the season, it would continue to be used in testing by Michael Andretti, Christian Fittipaldi, and Roberto Moreno. Racetracks this car was used at for testing included Homestead, Laguna, Sebring, Firebird, Gateway, Milwaukee, Mid-Ohio, M.I.S., Rte. 66, Elkhart, Thunderhill, Fontana, and Portland International Raceway. According to a race chart provided by Newman/Haas Racing, this car was last used on 3 February 1999 by Michael Andretti at Homestead. It is not currently fitted with an engine.
