Ferrari updated the popular Dino 246 GT for a final series of production that was internally dubbed the E-series. Following the L- and M-series before it, the E-series cars were an extension of the development that began with the production Dino’s origins of the 206 GT of 1967.

The 206 GT itself had been based on a spectacular styling exercise called the 206 S Speciale, which was conceived as a possible road going version of the successful Dino 206 S prototype racecars. A manufacturing deal with Fiat paved the way for V-6 engine production, and Scaglietti assembled the new GT with a body based on Pininfarina’s show car design. The new car was badged the Dino in honor of Enzo Ferrari’s late son of the same name.

The 246 Dinos have proved to be a most popular contemporary Ferrari. Their combination of incredibly sexy curves, sweet sounding, race-bred V-6 and nimble mid-engine chassis makes them a “must have” car for both first time and veteran Ferrari owners.

This restored Dino is powered by the 2,419-cc, 175-hp transverse-mounted V-6 and the gears are precisely shifted through its five-speed gearbox. This 246 GT is reported to have been driven sparingly and is fitted with Daytona specification seats and fender flares. The flares were not originally fitted by the factory on this particular car. Air conditioning, radio, power windows and four-wheel disc brakes complement this spectacular platform that is still recognized for its incredible handling characteristics.

Please note that we have recently been informed that the 246 Dino offered here, 03126, originally left Maranello as a Dino GT and was later converted to a GTS. Please contact an Auctions America Specialist with any questions.
