The 1927 LaSalle is considered the first American car to have been styled from concept to reality. Although smaller and lighter than the Cadillac, it had a similar chassis and a scaled-down L-head V-8 engine. There were 11 standard body styles, all built by Fisher, and four custom Fleetwood models, the most expensive of which sold for $4,700. This was incredible value, representing Cadillac quality at near $1,000 savings.

For 1930, Fleetwood offered six bodies, among them the distinctive and elegant seven-passenger Fleetlands Touring, of which only 239 were originally built.

The car offered here, body number 81, is documented as an authentic Fleetlands Touring with its original engine, as body style, body number, and engine number match those on the factory build sheet, a copy of which is on file. Interestingly, the same build sheet records that the car was originally a right-hand-drive model, sold through the General Motors Export Department to a buyer in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

By the time the present owner acquired the car seven years ago, at the car corral here in Hershey, it had undergone its present older, frame-off restoration, during which its steering was relocated to the left. It is painted a wonderful, subtle two-tone green, with matching wire wheels, dual side-mounted spares, wind wings, and driving lights, and it is a veteran of numerous tours, including the 2013 Glidden Tour. It has been owned, driven, and actively enjoyed as the wonderful road car that it is!

This would make a wonderful CCCA CARavan or Glidden Tour car for the entire family.
