As a passionate carriage collector, Mr. Day has owned numerous examples of the coachbuilder’s fine art over the years. One of the most unique pieces in his stable is this Ice Wagon, which is believed to hail from the 1800s. Mr. Day acquired it in 1975 and subjected it to a full restoration approximately a decade ago. The wooden bodywork was refinished in its present eye-catching livery and features correct striping, lettering, and detailing throughout, as well as a proper hanging basket at the rear. The leather upholstery and finish to the body are in excellent condition, while the chassis shows minor wear to the striping.
This Ice Wagon, recalling the lost art of cutting and delivering refrigeration from door to door, is a wonderful symbol of a bygone era.
