On offer is this 1998 C5 Corvette Roadster that is powered by a 5.7-liter, 345-hp LS1 V-8 engine with an automatic transmission and an Advance Composite Products body kit. This kit consists of a carbon fiber twin scoop hood, a custom front fascia, front lower splitter, custom flared front fenders, lower side sills and flared rear fenders. The 19-inch OZ alloy wheels are 10-inches wide in front and 12.5-inches wide in the rear. The Kumho tires were selected to fit the configuration of the body kit. ACP kits are popular for racing Corvettes in the World Challenge Series, Trans-Am and club racing. This bodywork was adapted for street use with pleasing results. The car currently has 30,000 miles on the odometer, and has been driven less than 1,000 miles since completion.

Along with full instrumentation, the Corvette has a manual convertible top with rear window defogger, air conditioning; power steering, four-wheel disc brakes with ABS, driver’s seat, door locks and windows.

The vehicle history, as known by the owner, began when he picked it up with 29,000 miles on it. It was a beautiful car that someone had been in a shunt with. The front glass and fenders were damaged but the frame checked out fine and the airbags had not deployed. Basically, the things that the new owner intended to replace were primarily the only components damaged. When the vehicle was completed, it went through the Pennsylvania procedure of an enhanced inspection and retitling of the vehicle. The Corvette has had a new GM top installed along with new paint to complete the pristine appearance.

To illustrate the level of execution on this Corvette, it was prepared by Jerry Thompson. He spent his first 12 years after earning his mechanical engineering degree at the Chevrolet Engineering Center in Warren, Michigan. During this period he was involved in the development of the Z28, the MK IV “big-block” and Chaparral Cars power development for Jim Hall’s legendary team.

He began sports car racing in 1961, progressing through Corvettes, Lotuses and Corvairs before winning the SCCA D Production National Championship in a Yenko Stinger. In 1968 he partnered with Tony DeLorenzo to form the Owens Corning Fiberglas racing team. One of their pair of Corvettes won its class in every race entered over an 18 straight month period. This included Jerry winning the 1969 A Production National Championship and the FIA GT class at the 1970 24 Hours of Daytona (sixth overall). These accomplishments were followed by podium finishes in TransAm, the American Challenge Series, Motorola Cup and others. In 2009 Jerry and Tony were inducted into the Corvette Hall of Fame in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Indeed, a fine pedigree.
