The Berkeley family of micro cars was manufactured from 1956 to 1960 in Great Britain and represented a sporty looking yet eminently affordable vehicle choice. Berkeley was a manufacturer of travel trailers with a factory full of fiberglass craftsmen. Building an extremely small but efficient and sporty car with a fiberglass body was a natural outgrowth of the business. The 492 was introduced in 1957 at the British Motor Show. Powered by a three-cylinder, air-cooled, two-stroke engine that displaced 492cc and made 30 horsepower, the Berkeley used a four-speed transmission into a front-wheel-drive configuration.
