Heavily based on the 360 Modena that entered production in 1999, the Challenge Stradale was positioned as a track-capable road car tailored by Ferrari for an anticipated 80:20 split of road-to-track use. With weight-saving measures including Plexiglass door windows, Alcantara seat fabric instead of leather, and forgoing the installation of a radio, the Challenge Stradale tipped the scales some 110 kilograms less than the Modena. Carbon-ceramic brakes were equipped as standard, improving both handling and braking performance by eliminating brake fade and shedding 16 kilograms of unsprung weight.
A total output of 425 horsepower allowed the Ferrari to reach 100 km/h from a standstill in just 4.1 seconds, mere split-seconds behind the track-only 360 Challenge that carried the mantle for the long-running, single-marque Ferrari Challenge motorsport series. Indeed, the ‘Stradale’ take on the Challenge badge gave drivers a chance to experience the purest and fastest iteration of the already-dazzling 360 Modena on the road. Ferrari ultimately built 1,288 examples of the prodigious 360-based Challenge Stradale, becoming an instant classic with Maranello racing connoisseurs.
The example on offer here left the factory finished in Argento Nürburgring and was delivered to its first owner via the Milan-based official Ferrari dealer, Rossocorsa S.r.l. on 16 September 2004, according to its accompanying Warranty Card. It is believed that the car stayed with its first owner until December 2011, after which it was exported from Italy. From then it is understood that the Challenge Stradale has had just one other owner in the Middle East.
This Challenge Stradale, which retains its matching-numbers engine, is a well-presented example of one of the most desirable variants of the Ferrari 360 Modena; the perennially desirable exterior colour of Argento Nürburgring with the stylish “no stripe” finish and dark red leather interior only adds to its considerable appeal. The car is accompanied by its Ferrari factory manuals and tyre inflation kit, while the odometer reads 21,516 kilometres at the time of cataloguing.
