The 512 TR, an update of Ferrari’s famed Testarossa, brought about a host of welcome enhancements to keep the company’s iconic mid-engined, 12-cylinder supercar competitive against Lamborghini’s new Diablo. Its interior was given numerous updates to improve driver and passenger comfort, with the most notable changes being to the seats and steering wheel. Underneath the still gorgeous styling, the 512 TR gained 38 additional horsepower, thanks to a more efficient exhaust system and the adoption of Nikasil cylinder liners. Ferrari engineers focused on increasing the car’s overall drivability by installing quicker steering, a single-plate clutch coupled with a smoother gearbox, and larger cross-drilled disc brakes. Top speed was increased to 195 mph, just shy of the F40’s incredible 201 mph, though at a fraction of the price.
Described by the consignor as being in excellent condition throughout and virtually flawless, this 512 TR is finished in very attractive black over maroon Connolly leather – a very rare and striking combination. In addition, the car is upgraded with an array of sophisticated security and sound equipment, including a custom alarm with window roll-ups and LED door locks, and built-in three-way strobe lights, front and rear, as well as Sony fiber optic 10-disc CD player and a four-disc mini-changer – both with monitor read outs; four-in. TV with tuner; Sony radio/tape deck with digital sound processor; rear-view video camera; and custom 2,000-watt Macintosh sound system with 13 speakers. According to the consignor, most modifications can be easily undone if preferred. A clean CARFAX report is included with the sale, along with the original tool set in leather attaché, owner’s manuals with leather folio, and compressed air bottle.
This is one of the iconic Ferraris of its time, in a rare and desirable color combination, and will be sure to impress.
